Welcome

Welcome to Down the Pike Productions. My name is Lizzy Lomax and this unique studio is where I create original interactive apps for children. I believe strongly in producing children’s applications that are not only entertaining, but have a positive message and make reading and learning fun!

Down the Pike Productions you ask?

My main source of inspiration comes from a magical place one can only experience through vintage photographs and movie clips; The Pike of Long Beach California (1902-1979).  The Pike was an old fashioned amusement park by the sea. It was free for everyone and had fun and games and thrill rides for every age group. There were so many attractions, The Cyclone Racer, The Plunge, The Fun House, Silver Spray Pier, Rainbow Pier, Bathing Beauty contests, Salt Water Taffy, and so on and so on. There was something wholesome and pure about this place once called the “Walk of a Thousand Lights.”

I lived in Long Beach during the time I attended CSULB and also for a few years after I graduated. When I learned the history of Long Beach, I became obsessed with the Pike. The landscape has changed drastically since 1979 and there is nothing left of this amazing amusement park. I’ve read interesting stories from people who grew up near the Pike and I just can’t help but be influenced by their memories of this once enchanting place. The exploration into this world that resides both in my imagination and historical research is the driving force for what I create.

About Lizzy Lomax

I grew up in Anaheim California, just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the magical world of Disneyland.  It was hard not to be inspired to be an artist with Disneyland right in my backyard. My childhood was spent watching old television shows like Merry Melodies, Looney Tunes, Pippi Longstocking, The Three Stooges, The Little Rascals, and Family Film Festival and Popeye Shows with Tom Hatten on KTLA 5. I was inspired to draw while watching Tom sketch Popeye characters at the drop of a dime at the beginning of every show. Growing up in Anaheim and watching these wonderfully delightful shows had a definite impact on my creative style, my sense of humor, and my love for the past.

I graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a BFA in Illustration. I went on to work for design companies as a freelance illustrator. Print work was fun but I really wanted to learn 3D Animation. I went on to complete courses from Cal State Fullerton, put a reel together and landed a job with Wit Animation. I was fortunate enough to animate some pretty cool commercials and work with some pretty awesome people. I gained a tremendous amount of knowledge along the way; web designing and programming included.

Times have changed, now I’m a mother of one little awesome girl. Which leads me to what I love to do now and that is creating fun and inspiring children’s storybook apps! I’m lucky enough to take my skills solo and just focus on creating interactive stories and amusing art in general. This is just the beginning for Down the Pike Productions so I hope u join me on this adventure!
